Description
The Statue of Liberty was given to the United States by the people of France as a symbol of the friendship that was established during the American Revolution. The Statue was designed by sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and became a joint project with American’s responsible for construction of the pedestal and the French responsible for construction of the actual Statue and assembling her on the base. While the statue was originally to be completed in 1876 in commemoration of the centennial of the official commemoration until OCtober 28, 1886.
